Beginning in the 1950s, Sr. Prof Cunningham continued the traditions of the Cunninghames of old by engaging in duels of combat excellence. These bouts for martial arts rank and warrior prowess were of Cunninghame legends past. Through this process of truth in skill development Sr. Prof. Cunningham passed on this skill and training modality to his son Prof. Tyron Cunningham.

PRECURSOR OF CUNNINGHAME JU-JITSU

KEMPO GO SHIN JU JITSU (Du éesh Yakwteiyí) was founded by Sr. Prof. Dennis Cunningham in 1958. This go shin ju jitsu style is a blend of kempo, karate, military hand-to-hand combat, and manmade weapons as necessity dictated. By the applications of go shin ju jitsu in actual fighting, the crane & eagle techniques were refined and solidified to produce a close combat system that was tried and proven. The method was to strike hard and retreat quickly from any position that you might be in battle using whatever means (natural or manmade weapons). Speed, smoothness, timing, and breath control expressed Sr. Prof. Cunningham’s center. Through the employment of various angles (entry), motion side to side and in and out (avenues of approach) while redirecting opponents attack and breaking the balance was paramount in HCB (human combative behavior) theory. The objective being to create blind spots within the opponents defense to counter the attack. Sr. Prof. Cunningham would step quick and smooth utilizing the bow and modified bow stance stepping as though he was sliding his feet, attacking vital areas of circumstance following anatomical positioning concepts while utilizing the weapons at hand. Sometimes soft (smooth & sticky/crane, eagle, raven) and sometimes hard (heavy & sticky/tiger, wolverine, mountain lion, and timberwolf). His go shin ju jutsu personified inner and outer strength that made his style a fortification (Noow) of defense.
